Accountant – Professional

Position:

The Practice has a position for a person who has achieved in accounting and possesses qualifications from one of the major accounting bodies and has experienced accountancy and taxation work at a professional level and desires to advance themselves professionally.

The Practice is broad based and addresses accountancy and taxation for most levels of client requirements and also responds to the financial planning requirements of clients.

Qualifications: Commerce based Bachelors Degree majoring in Accountancy, then completion of the Professional year.

Experience: Overarching experience in Accountancy in other roles would be an advantage but not essential.

Skills:

Essential Characteristics:

  • Applicant should be able to demonstrate experience with dealing with clients at an advanced level and capable of responding to business structuring
  • Have had experience at dealing with MYOB and Quicken products and particularly professional accounting packages (APS would be an advantage)
  • Be competent in the routine of an accounting Practice namely BAS preparation, income tax management and taxation return preparation
  • Have an in-depth understanding of Trusts (discretionary and fixed trusts), Self-Managed Superannuation Funds, Companies, Sole Traders and Partnerships
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft products and be very conversant in a demonstrable way relative to the operations of these packages
  • Possess a working knowledge of State based fiscal Laws and their interplay with business structuring

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Have the desire to engage in regional town opportunities and build new Practice clientele
  • Have the ability to work within a small Practice and assist in the Practice functions, training of junior staff and in the overall improvement of the Practice
  • IT knowledge to enable routine problems to be addressed

Training: Regular training is undertaken by personnel in the Practice with reputable training organisations to advance and update their knowledge. The extent of training is subject to negotiation.

Accountant – Graduate or near

(under consideration as at 24th March 2009)

Position: Accountant position suited to persons pursuing a professional career.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Commerce with a major in accounting or near completion.

Experience: Experience in similar role preferred but not necessary.

Skills: Proficient in Microsoft office products. Prior knowledge of taxation, accounting software and APS software an advantage but not necessary as ongoing training will be provided .

  • Good time management skills

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Financial statement preparation:
    • sole traders, partnerships, trusts, proprietary limited
  • income tax return preparation
    • sole traders, partnerships, trusts, proprietary limited
  • BAS preparation
  • bookkeeping
  • profit estimates
  • preparation of cash flow projections
  • use of accounting software package including quicken, quickbooks, banklink and MYOB
  • maintenance of corporate register
  • basic IT maintenance
  • correspondence drafting
  • bank reconciliations
  • minute preparation
  • working papers preparation
  • taxation administration duties including data input and drafting of client newsletters
  • occasional ancillary duties including; reception, filing, and banking
  • financial planning introduction

Training: Broad based training will begin immediately to quickly advance knowledge in taxation and other duties. It is expected that you will develop an understanding of all taxation instruments and processes including; land tax, fringe benefits tax, income tax and payroll tax.
